2013 Special Guest: Tim Borski
The Red Stick Fly Fishers are delighted to welcome back Tim Borski to Louisiana. Many will remember Tim from the "Saltwater Fly Fishers Picnics" sponsored by Uptown Angler, as well as his visits to the New Orleans fly shop.
Whether it's recreating images of fish, wildlife or scenery on the canvas, or tying flies that fool the wily underwater denizens found near his home in the Florida Keys, Tim Borski personifies the "art of the sport" of fly fishing like few others. Both his art and his flies are cherished by many.
Borski grew up in Wisconsin but moved to Miami at age 23, and to the Florida Keys shortly after. In the Keys, he found an opportunity as caretaker on Craig Key, that allowed him to develop as an artist.  Following an article about him in Men's Journal magazine in 2007, a following for his watercolor paintings arose. Branching into oils and acrylics, he constantly innovates, so life in the Borski household is never boring.
The same passion he exudes in his artwork, he does so in his flies. Lefty Kreh describes Tim as "an excellent fly tyer who has developed a number of innovative and effective flies". The patterns in his "Borski Ties Flies" videos have - in recent years - become part an integral part of many saltwater and warmwater fly boxes.
As an artist and author, Tim is often busy, but always has time for his other passions: fly fishing, paddling, and herpetology. Going "snaking" and camping with his boys Josef, 10, and Gus, 7, fishing around the house (Florida Bay), and the occasional business jaunt keeps Tim happy at home and on the road, meeting new and interesting people. Check out Tim's website at http://www.tborskiart.com/.
This will be your opportunity to meet and visit with one of this country’s premier fly tiers and fly fishers, and watch him tie his famous patterns in person.
